Electric Vehicles

A new era begins in your garage. You’ll save money every time you charge your plug-in electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Your electric cooperative provides options so you can choose what time to charge your car and how much to pay. You’ll wake up fully charged and get off to a great start – now and for many mornings to come.

Powering your EV
East Central Energy (ECE) offers options for charging your electrical vehicle (EV) at home. The time-of-use program provides the most flexibility, while the storage program offers the lowest price.

ECE offers a $750 rebate to install a level 2 charger on either the time-of-use rate or off-peak storage rate. Contact us for details.

Time-of-use rates
A charger installed on ECE’s time-of-use rate will always receive electricity, so you can charge your vehicle whenever needed. A special meter is installed that allows the rate to fluctuate based on the time of day you charge your EV.

     Off-peak rate - 7 cents per kWh, weekends and holidays*, and from 9 p.m. - 10 a.m. weekdays.
     Intermediate rate - 12 cents per kWh, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. weekdays
Peak rate - 35 cents per kWh, 3-9 p.m. weekdays

*Holidays include New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Off-peak storage rate
The off-peak storage rate offers members the lowest-cost, off-peak electricity for charging an EV, but the hours available are the most restrictive.
Electricity for charging your EV is available only during off-peak hours. Power will not be supplied outside of the off-peak hours and the charger must be hardwired into your circuit panel.

Power your EV with 100% wind energy
East Central Energy is offering you an opportunity to power your electric vehicle with 100% wind energy, for the lifetime of that vehicle, at no extra cost. You’ll still have to pay for the energy you use, but you’ll be able to do so knowing that when you go electric, you’ll always be going green.

How do you know you’ll be getting 100% wind energy?
Energy comes from all kinds of sources: wind, natural gas, coal and so on. Once it hits the power grid, there’s no way of telling where it came from. However, when renewable energy is added to the mix, a renewable energy credit (REC) is created that embodies all of the environmental benefits of that energy. When you claim your Revolt upgrade, we’ll dedicate wind energy RECs on your behalf, completely offsetting the energy used to power your electric vehicle.

Which EVs are eligible for Revolt?
Two categories of electric vehicles are eligible for enrollment in Revolt: plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV).

  • PEVs are all electric, all of the time, and have no internal combustion engine or gas tank.

  • PHEVs are the multi-taskers, running on both gas and electricity.

Hybrid electric vehicles that have a gas tank and no plug are not eligible. They charge through regenerative braking and by drawing power from the engine.
