Operation Round Up - October 2016

The following local organizations were awarded grants in October 2016.

 COMMUNITY SERVICE  

City of Harris, MN: $1,000 for the purchase of fence guards for the city’s community ballfields. The guards are designed to help reduce injuries and increase the visibility of the fence.

Finlayson Fire & Rescue: $2,389 for a new QRAE 4 gas monitor and SCBA refill station from Backus Fire Department. The equipment will allow the department to respond more quickly and safely to calls.

North Chisago Historical Society, Rush City: $1,000 for materials necessary to record and securely organize and store donations to the organization.

PHASE, Sandstone: $2,600 was approved to purchase LED grow lighting for the organization’s Aquaponics test site. The program is designed to create a long-term, financially sustainable form of employment for PHASE participants. It will also provide a food source for the Nemadji Community Resource Food Program.

Rhine Lake Retreat, Finlayson: $1,400 for the retreat’s sauna addition. The grant will be used to purchase a sauna stove and stove pipe.

EDUCATION AND YOUTH

Just Kids Dental, Two Harbors: $3,500 for the purchase of 7,200 toothbrush kits to be distributed to uninsured and underinsured children who face limited access to dental throughout Douglas County. The kits include a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss.

Kanabec County 4-H, Mora: $1,778 two Lego Mindstorm EV3 robots with software, laptop computer, national team registration, High Tech Kids (Minnesota) regional tournament registration, and 2017 field kit. The equipment will be used by the club’s robotics program participants.

Northland Youth Music Program, Poplar, WI: $1,000 for the summer youth music education program.


Established in 1997, the ORU Trust has put more than $1.5 million to work in local communities. With gifts ranging from one penny to 99 cents per month, participating members have a convenient way to pool their resources for the benefit of the greater community. The average contribution is around $6 per year, and the maximum annual contribution is $11.88.
