A farewell message from Steve
I’ve been blessed to finish my 43-year career in the energy industry at the best place I ever worked –East Central Energy. As I thought about the last ten years, I realized why it’s such a great place. I have the honor of working with people who live our mission: East Central Energy improves the quality of life by safely providing reliable energy and related services, while embracing our cooperative principles.
My co-workers are passionate about doing the right thing for our communities, our members and for each other. They are extremely competent professionals, with diverse talents and ideas. Whether working in the office or the field, they all pull together to achieve our mission.
The ECE Board of Directors, collectively my bosses, also understand why we exist. The board challenges us to do things safely, efficiently and cost-effectively, while seeking solutions to the challenges that lie ahead. They have a passion to do what is right for you, our members.
I gave ECE my best. But I got more in return. My co-workers and directors are my friends. We have been through major storms, the loss of loved ones, and most recently the pandemic. We’ve leaned on each other to get through these difficulties, because ECE is our second family.
I’ve often told our employees I love them. It’s borne out of respect. A love that shows I care for their well-being. I hope the mark I’ve left at ECE is one of love, respect and humility.
I thank you for the last ten years, and I wish you and your loved ones the best in the years ahead. But now I look forward to spending more time with my wife, Leila, our five married children, and the 19 (and counting) grandchildren they have blessed us with.
