2006 Right-of-way Plan Announced

East Central Energy will invest $3.4 million is budgeted for right-of-way maintenance work in 2006. The program improves public safety and service reliability.

Director candidates nominated

Petitions for nomination of director candidates were received from all East Central Energy director districts. Elections will be held in Districts 1,2, 4, 5, and 6. No election wiil be necessary in District 3 because there are only two nominees and ECE bylaws allow no write-in candidates.

Touchstone Energy Award

East Central Energy's Operation Round Up Trust Board selected Li'l Farm Children's Home, Inc., a foster care facility at Cambridge, Minn. to receive the second annual ECE Touchstone Energy Community Award. Della and Bob Theis, Li'l Farm volunteers and donors accepted the award and ECE's donation of $250 during the co-op's December 2005 board meeting.

Rate Increase for 2005

After years of holding the line, East Central Energy will increase rates in 2005. The ECE board recently approved new rates projected to increase revenue by 7.4 percent.

Tree Line USA Utility

During its annual Trees and Utilities National Conference in April, the National Arbor Day Foundation named East Central Energy, a Tree Line USA utility. The award recognizes ECE for its quality tree care program, annual worker training in quality tree care practices and tree planting and public education programs.

Annual Meeting Highlights Ownership

An estimated 850 members and guests attended the 68th Annual Meeting of East Central Energy held Saturday, April 17 at the Braham High School. The event featured a pancake breakfast, informational displays, entertainment, prizes and the official business meeting of the cooperative.

69th Annual Meeting

East Central Energy will hold it's 69th annual membership meeting, Saturday, April 9 at East Central Schools near Banning Junction, east of Finlayson, Minn.

ECE Sponsors Students

East Central Energy will sponsor three area high school juniors to participate in the 2004 Washington, DC Youth Tour this June. Nine applicants submitted essays and winners were selected from a field of five finalists who made oral presentations and interviewed with a three-judge panel.

After reviewing East Central Energy finances and determining that the cooperative is in sound fiscal condition, the Board of Directors has approved a capital credit retirement for consumers who have been members of the cooperative for more than one year.

Cookbook Funds Help Haitian Village

East Central Energy (ECE) published a cookbook to use good recipes to promote good works. The energy cooperative will donate proceeds from sales of "Watt's Cookin'" to support a co-op in Haiti that's building electric infrastructure to serve more than 30,000 people.

Save on Summer Energy Bills

Six Minnesota electric cooperatives will again conduct a joint consumer education campaign this summer to help members save money on energy bills. The program called Wait ‘til 8 is cosponsored by Arrowhead Electric Cooperative, Cooperative Light & Power, Crow Wing Power, East Central Energy, Lake Country Power and Mille Lacs Electric Cooperative.

ECE volunteers lend a hand

GreenTouch is a partnership between Minnesota's Touchstone Energy® cooperatives, the Minnesota State Park System and the Parks and Trails Council of Minnesota. This year, more than 1,600 volunteers donated nearly 6,000 hours to help prepare for the estimated 8.1 million visitors who use the parks each year.

68th Annual Meeting Scheduled

ECE Lineman Wins National Award

David Thom, a lineman for East Central Energy, won second place honors in the Line Blazer Contest sponsored by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) and its Cooperative Research Network (CRN).
